Lucas Scott: The broody basketball phenomenon from the wrong side of the tracks. Lucas, best friend to Haley James and the guys at the Rivercourt, loves life and lives it nobly and honestly, that is until his sophomore year of high school.
And so the story begins....
With a push from his uncle Keith and an opportunity handed to him by Coach “Whitey” Durham, Lucas joins the Ravens basketball team but success doesn’t come easy as Lucas’ older brother, Nathan Scott, begins the hazing. It takes a victorious one on one basketball game, a trashed court and a manipulative plan gone wrong for the team to finally lay off Lucas. After his second game of the season, Lucas’ popularity seems to be soaring, leaving none other than a naked Brooke Davis in the backseat of his car. A Steinbeck book and a tattoo later, the Brooke/Lucas saga begins. Brooke has fallen head over heals in love with Lucas, unfortunately, Lucas’ feelings aren’t mutual. His feelings lie with another tortured blonde, Peyton Sawyer. After Lucas’ car accident, he finds himself breaking up with Brooke to be with Peyton, only Brooke doesn’t know that. After going in his room to check on him, Brooke discovers their not so discreet affair as it publicised on Blondie’s webcam. That’s the end of Brooke and Lucas part 1.
After royally screwing up both relationships in his life, Lucas turns to an extreme; a night of drinking. He meets Nikki at a bar, only to later find out that she is in fact the mother of Jenny and yes, Jake’s ex. It all comes down to Nikki’s big confession on the night of Haley’s party and not only does Brooke hate him, but now, so does Peyton. Deciding he needs to do better, Lucas decides to leave Tree Hill and start afresh with his uncle Keith in Charleston.
Whilst in Charleston, Lucas receives the news of his father having a heart attack and ultimately decides to return to Tree Hill. At Nathan and Haley’s wedding reception, Lucas states that him, Brooke and Peyton are “going to be okay” and with that, their junior year starts. Brooke develops a platonic friendship with Lucas until the arrival of Tree Hill’s newest residents.
Enter the Taggaros...
Felix and Anna Taggaro, Tree Hill’s new rich and beautiful. Immediately Anna and Felix take a liking to Brooke and Lucas and from that the Anna/Lucas relationship started. Felix and Lucas didn’t exactly see eye to eye as Felix went into over protective brother mode and the two shared minor disagreements. Eventually, Lucas realised that he didn’t have feelings for Anna in the way that he thought but harboured them for another feisty brunette. As Brooke and Lucas’ friendship blossomed, the tension between the two was undeniable. Lucas began falling fast and hard and the news of Brooke’s sudden move to California didn’t sit well with him. Convincing his mother Karen to persuade the Davis’, Brooke stayed at Lucas’ house whilst he moved in with his father Dan, which leads on to the next chapter in Lucas Scott’s life; dealing with the devil.
When Lucas moves out of Karen’s house and into Dan’s, to say that everyone was shocked would be an understatement. However, as the story progresses, the real reasons come out. Lucas needs Dan to pay for his HCM medicine which nobody else knows about. Lucas also reveals in the time capsule that he wants to get closer to his father so that he can “set the people I love free”. With the help of Andy, his mother’s boyfriend, Lucas discovers Dan’s hidden ledger and gives it to Deb so that she can escape Dan. Lucas moves out of the Scott household and back in with his mother..and Brooke.
Junior year is coming to an end and Lucas can’t help but think about his feelings for Brooke. Planning on bidding her goodbye, Lucas finds himself kissing Brooke as she prepares to leave Tree Hill for the summer. He tells her that he wants to be with her to which she sadly replies, “I gotta go”. Lucas ends up spending the summer with none other than Peyton where they share stories of the dealership fire and Peyton’s birth mom.
Senior year...
Brooke returns for the summer and proposes a non-exclusive relationship with Lucas. Lucas, obviously head over heals in love with her, takes what he can gets and the two begin dating, non- exclusively. However, he only wants to date Brooke and he makes that clear so she inadvertently arranges a date between him and Rachel, the new, hot, red headed cheer leader. Lucas jumps through hoops for Brooke; dressing up as Tommy Lee for the costume party and dealing with the fact that she didn’t pick him in the Fantasy Boy Draft but when Lucas goes over to Brooke’s one night to find her in bed with Chris Keller, he decides it’s too much. Lucas deletes her number from his phone, paints over the red door and gives Brooke the cold shoulder every time they meet. It’s only when Brooke comes over to Lucas’ and gives him the letters she wrote to him over the summer, that he realises just how much he wants to be with her. With that, he forgives her and they finally exchange their “I love you”s.
The final straw..
Lucas and Brooke are back together and better than ever. However, there is still that one insecurity that lingers in their relationship; Peyton Sawyer. On the day of the school shooting, Peyton kisses Lucas and turns the relationship upside down. As a result of the shooting, Lucas fatedly loses his uncle Keith, who has been more of a father figure to him than anyone else in his life. Dealing with the heart ache of his loss, Lucas quits the basketball team, knowing that his HCM will take a toll on his life. That is until he mistakenly reveals the kiss him and Peyton shared to Brooke at Nathan and Haley’s wedding and fireworks proceed. Brooke ends the relationship, not giving Lucas a reason why, and even now Lucas doesn’t know that Brooke broke up with him because Peyton confessed her love for him only the previous night. Lucas is left heart broken and devastated and finds solace in Peyton. Soon the two declare their love for each other and thus begins the start of the Lucas/ Peyton relationship.
Lucas is still on the path to finding himself and discovering who he truly is. He is still the broody, quiet teenager from the Rivercourt but only now does he have the experience that will help him to make the right decisions and be the person he set out to be.
